How do I check whether my CSLB license is active?

CSLB licensing

Use CSLB's free Check a License tool at cslb.ca.gov. Search by license number, business name or personnel name. The record shows the license status (active, inactive, expired, suspended), the expiration date, classifications, the bond on file with its surety and effective date, the workers' compensation carrier and policy dates or the exemption, and any disciplinary history.

Check it at least quarterly and always after a bond or workers' compensation renewal. A suspension posts to the public record before CSLB's letter reaches you, and general contractors, property managers and lenders check this page before they sign with you. The two most common surprises are a bond or workers' compensation policy that renewed with the carrier but was never re-filed with CSLB, and a workers' compensation exemption still on file after the company hired its first employee.
